The Driver Extreme DX901 External Speaker was designed specifically as a communications grade product. Why is this important? Let’s look at the reasons behind the design.
The unique shape was chosen for multiple reasons with one of them being mounting versatility. There are various locations where this speaker can be mounted including on the dash thanks to the wedge design. The DX901 speaker can be mounted and angled for best projection of sound. The internal cabinet shape utilizes acoustic properties that were designed to project the sound without contributing to the sound. We applied internal stiffening ribs to break up reflections within the cabinet. Any reflections that remain are captured by our unique acoustic damping ring. We have even included a small vent to reduce excessive pressure build-up within the cabinet.
Installation has been made easier by using a high grade detachable speaker cable. The cable itself uses an advanced geometry designed to reduce the potential for interference. This high tech cable features 1 straight and 1 right angled plug. This not only allows ease of routing, but guarantees reduced stress on the mating plugs and greater clearance in tight spots. You choose what fits best for your specific application.
The domed open mesh grille not only protects the speaker, it also allows both direct radiation and acts as a wide angle diffuser. Directly radiated sound increases clarity. Diffusion helps to improve sound when not directly in front of the speaker. Further controlled diffusion is achieved via the flat depression in the grille where the Driver Extreme logo is attached. Diffusion helps to reduce and break up high frequency “beaming”. This gives more even coverage of the sound while also helping to make static and hiss less objectionable. This technology is part of what allows the DX901 to provide better and smoother sound at almost any listening angle.
The speaker chosen for use in the DX901 covers the entire range of the human voice accurately. It goes a bit above and below the mid-range frequencies, which helps to maintain natural sound for all voices. This is important because a speaker that has too much bass will sound thick or hard to understand and too little bass can sound weak or thin. With too much treble, the static or hiss become louder and with too little treble, voices become muffled or muted. The DX901 offers the proper tonal balance required for natural sound with extreme clarity. Some environments can be noisy, so an efficient design was required. The DX901 plays loud without having to crank your volume control way up! This not only makes it easier on the radio, it reduces the potential for distortion. Less distortion from the radio and the speaker translates to cleaner and clearer sound! This is the key to not only hearing someone, but understanding them!
